pm4py is a software product, developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT). In particular, pm4py is developed by the process mining group of Fraunhofer FIT. pm4py is created with a number of goals in mind, i.e.,:
- Making state-of-the-art process mining algorithms available to the public; The process mining group of Fraunhofer FIT is affeliated with the Process and Data Science group of Prof. Wil van der Aalst. Together, they are considered the world-wide leading group in process mining research. Through this connection, novel developments are intergrated in pm4py extremely fast. Furthermore, some of the developers of pm4py have been active in process mining research for several years and published in numerours scientific venues, on various process mining topics.
- Supporting Collaborations between Academia and Industry; The development team of pm4py develops numerous related products, e.g., connectors to several different enterprise systems such as SAP, Camunda, etc., a web-service that wraps around and a scalable cloud solution. All of these products allow us to integrate the core of pm4py, i.e., state-of-the-art process mining, within industrial enterprise. This allows us to actively integrate our solutions within the day-to-day operations of industry partners. Note that, the goal of these products is to foster industry-driven research, i.e., Fraunhofer is a non-profit research institute.
